In the spring of 2005, LuzForm designed and developed the web site for the BC Healthy Living Alliance, an umbrella organziation dedicated to promoting healthy living strategies. As the group is an alliance, its strength comes from its members, and so one of the goals for the site was to show the scope of that membership while not overshadowing individual members—a delicate balancing act. Another visual design challenge was developing a suitable visual language for an organization whose primary activities are not all that visual: at our initial kick-off meeting, we were presented with binders of documents and policy papers. Intriguing reading, but hard to summarize in an image. As a provincial election is/was nearing, the site also had to be fairly active, with the potential for daily updates, so all the content was developed as dynamic strings of info which can be re-organized and re-used easily. Foregrounding the highly active nature of the site and the group became a strategy to enhance the credibility of the group.

Details

An administrative side, allowing the site owner to make updates, was also developed as a custom-made toolset. The adminstrator can add and modify news stories instantly, upload images and documents, add and manage links, and cross-link news stories to the Accomplishments sections throughout the site. Much of the site is made up of dynamically-driven data, from the list of news stories to tooltips.
